Turkey to the core!

Make your own Thanksgiving decorations

turkey1.jpgHomemade Thanksgiving decorations make the holiday table look extra special. This year, why not be in charge of the decorating committee? Make several of these festive turkeys to scatter around the table … or to place at each setting.  Since apples are used as the body of the turkey, you can give the gobblers a different look by experimenting with  the various types of apples available at orchards and supermarkets.
• Gala apples have pink and orange tones mixed in with red.
• Red Delicious apples are mostly dark red with light specks on the skin.
• Golden Delicious are a pretty gold color.
• Granny Smith are lime green in color.

To make a turkey out of an apple, you’ll need:
2 wiggle eyes
1 peanut in shell
Hot glue or tacky glue
1 paper napkin (612 inch square) in a fall color
2 small paper clips
1 apple

How to assemble your turkey:
1. Glue the wiggle eyes to the peanut to make the turkey’s eyes. Let it rest until it dries thoroughly.
2. Unfold the napkin half way, then fold accordion style. Put one paper clip in the center of the folded napkin. Pull the ends of the napkin together to make a fan. Secure with a paper clip at the top.
3. Once the eyes are firmly attached to the peanut, glue the peanut to the side of the apple as shown in the picture. Rest the apple on its side until the glue is dry.
4. To decorate your holiday table, place the napkin fan behind the apple.
