Change a light on Oct. 3 …

cfl.jpgChange a light on Oct. 3, ENERGY STAR’s Change a Light Day, and you can start helping change the world.

energystar.gifThe ENERGY STAR Change a Light, Change the World Campaign is a national call-to-action to encourage individuals to help change the world, one light — one energy-saving step — at a time. Here’s how to start: pledge to change one or more regular incandescent light bulbs in your home with the new higher efficiency compact fluorescent lamps.

Nationwide, Americans have pledged to change over 2 million bulbs. That means we’ll avoid using over 565 million kilowatt-hours of electricity, save over $56.6 million in energy costs and prevent almost 892 million pounds of greenhouse gas emissions. In Indiana, some 21,000 Hoosiers have pledged to change almost 34,500 bulbs. That’ll save them $970,729 in energy costs and cut 15,318,235 pounds of greenhouse gases.

This year, Change a Light Day kicks off with a national bus tour that includes a stop in Indianapolis, Oct. 14, at the Indianapolis Zoo parking lot from 10 am-2 pm. Come to learn about energy efficiency. Bring an old incandescent light bulb to exchange for a new CFL and get $2 off admission to the zoo, too.
