10 Years of Calendar Art
Welcome to our ‘Gallery of Student Art’ … 1999-2008

Each year, Electric Consumer and Indiana’s electric cooperatives hold a statewide calendar art contest. It is open to all Indiana students in grades kindergarten through 12.
Each grade is assigned a month to illustrate. The month corresponds to the grade: first graders illustrate the first month, January; second graders have February; and so on through grade 12 which illustrates the 12th month of the year, December. Kindergartners are asked to create art for the cover of the calendar which is open to all subjects.
Clicking on each grade below will take you to thumbnails of the past grade division winners, 1999-2008.*
Here’s a link to a short story on the calendar’s history.

*The 2002 calendar winners have been omitted from this feature, except for the kindergarten cover winner. The reason is the grade assignments were different from the other nine contests.
The 2002 calendar contest flipped the grades around: 12th graders illustrated January, 11th graders had February, and so on, ending with first graders illustrating December. The change was made for the 2002 calendar because the contest, previously held during early autumn of each year, was moved to the spring. Therefore, students during the 2000-01 school year had already illustrated the 2001 calendar with the autumn 2000 contest, and were asked again to illustrate the 2002 calendar in the spring of 2001. Rather than assign the same month each grade illustrated earlier that school year, we flipped the format to give them something new. Only kindergartners kept the same assignment, the cover illustration.
The calendar contest reverted to its previous rules for the spring 2002 contest which illustrated the 2003 calendar. The contest deadline has remained in March or April.
